October 2010

Well tourism is picking up a bit.  We are looking forward to seeing Angie and Woody back from Germany - our Safe House donors/builders and great supporters.

TOURS
These are always full of great fun with all the lovely people we take every day.

LUKHANYISO SAFE HOUSE
Well the big news is we had our first occupants of the safe house on the 14th October.  A lady and her 9 year old son, brought to us by the Knysna Police.  From an abusive situation at home.  They stayed in the Safe House for 1 week to just gather their thoughts and be quiet.  In this time the lady managed to rent her own house and move out to be independent and start a new life on her own.

Before she moved in we took a few photos of the inside, with Ella lounging around all the beds !!! so you could see what it looked like. We are hoping that some funds will come through from a lovely couple and their church in England to help us finish off the odds and ends in the Safe House soon.

THE SOUP KITCHEN
This continues to be a great success and the children are there every day, sometimes just to play there in the afternoons and have their food.  It is especially great when it is raining, as there is a safe place for the community kids to come to and be with their friends, warm and dry.  Ella's daughter, Lamla is wonderful at sorting things out for us there when we are busy.  We call her "The Managing Director of the Soup Kitchen".  Brian from Knysna Gas always kindly supplies us with free gas to cook on for the kids.  Then Sharon from Pixieland Creché always pops up about twice a month on a Tuesday and bring soup and rolls up for the kids, tells them a very dramatic Bible story, which they love, Ella translates, and they all colour in pictures or do some great craft together.

The MG Car Club sponsor food and also Fayaaz at Amazen Trading in town.  Thanks to you all.

EDUCATION PROJECT
All the children we pay for to go to Pre School are still going.  Little Danville is back with his Granny and ok.  He is at school every day.  The others at Magdeleine's pre school are also there, we pop in now and then there just to check up.  Little Nu-Nu is at Ella's quite a lot, and goes to Thandi's creché now and then, but we keep an eye on her.  Angelo and the "boys" are still very much into their soccer and spend a lot of time with their coach - Romeo.  Angelo should be in the gymnastics team as he is alway doing somersaults

ANIMAL WELFARE
As you know this is Penny's passion !!  Every tour is full of activity, whether is is putting eye drops into dogs eyes, dipping some, giving worm pills, rescuing puppies, feeding loads of dogs.  Helping one knocked down by a car the other day, Animal Welfare did a great job of getting up there so fast to help and taking the little chap off for us.  Thanks to all who donate dog food, blankets, bowls and to Animal Welfare in Knysna.

Thank you to everyone who donates little bits and pieces here and there, they keep all the projects running.

With our love
Ella and Penny

It is sometimes really difficult to get photos while I am with the people, but we stop and feed loads of dogs along the way that look hungry and report what we can to AW that really need attention.  The community know us well now and run out to report to us anything wrong with their animals, or come with a little container to take some food for their dogs.

So thank you everyone for your support, it goes a long way.

Our love
Ella and Penny
